The Upper Room Diaries

The Lord said to Joshua in 10:8 “do not be afraid of them; I have given them into your hand. Not one of them will be able to withstand you.” Joshua then took courage and moved forward to fight the battle for the Lord. Amazing things happened. God threw the enemy into confusion and rained down large hailstones that verse 11 records that “more of them died from the hailstones than were killed by the swords of the Israelites.”

Then something even more amazing happened. Joshua prayed for the Sun and the Moon to stand still. . . and God did as Joshua asked! Thus the author noted that this day was unique not because of astronomical phenomenon, but because God listened to the voice of man. Joshua asked God to show the enemy that God Himself is the one that is behind the victory.

Joshua 10:1-15 is a famous passage which records God aiding the people of Israel when they decide to obey God, to drive out the inhabitants of Canaan. The miracle happened because the people were doing the will of God. This is only one of the examples where miracles happen for the good of God’s servants when they choose to obey God.

It is the will of God that all His followers subject themselves to His Word. This means that when you follow God by seeking to obey all of the Bible, you are effectively living for God. When the Psalmist wrote in 119:105 “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path”, the point is that God would path us a way when we live for Him. . . even when there seems to be no way, our God who created all things, would create a way for us.

However, this special providence from God is conditional upon our actual living for Him. The more extreme the living, the more spectacular the provision. God will not allow His servants to be ridiculed by World unjustified. So people, if you want to experience God more amazingly, you really have to live for God. There is no shortcut. In every part of your life, think of ways where you can live for God. Usually those ways are against the World and most probably your friends and family would ridicule you for it. But do not worry, God would be your ultimate vindicator.

The same God who stopped the sun for Joshua; the same God who have done wonders in my own life; that same God now dwells in you.
